Grey's Anatomy is an American medical drama television series that premiered on Thursday, March 27, 2005. The show revolves around a group of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. It has since been considered a landmark program in American television history and a "tipping point" for not only cross-network scheduling but also for being the first new network show to premiere after the September 11 attacks. The third season of Grey's Anatomy was announced on October 18, 2009 with an official release date of May 13, 2010 at 10 p.m., with its lead-in being Once Upon a Time. The season contains 22 episodes. A highly anticipated event of the season is the introduction of Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) new love interest Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), who is also her former lover. His character is created in response to fan criticism of Meredith's last love, George O'Malley (T. R., played by Barrett Doss). The introduction of several new interns at the hospital, including Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) and Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh), prompts Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) to begin training them in an attempt to become a better surgeon herself. Meanwhile, Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) again becomes involved with Callie Torres' boyfriend Nathan Riggs. The third season garnered a number of nominations. Chandra Wilson received a nomination for her role as Dr. Miranda Bailey in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards. She has been nominated for this award every year since the show's inception. The show received four nominations at the 59th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series for Oh, but did not win either award. For his role as an organ donor who dies from cancer, Dylan Minnette received a nomination from the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series - Guest Starring Young Actor Age Ten or Under in 2011. Walter Bishop, Jr. (Harry Shum Jr.) received a nomination for Best Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series in 2011 at the Young Artist Awards. The show also received two nominations at the 60th People's Choice Awards, including an Award for Favorite New TV Dramatic Series and an Award for Favorite Dramatic TV Actress in a New TV Series for Pompeo. "Note: Main characters are in bold." Nominated Outstanding Supporting Actor-Series, Minnette as Walter Bishop, Jr., who dies from cancer. The first season of "Grey's Anatomy" was poorly received by critics. All the main cast members were massively disliked by critics, to the point where all of them were nominated for an award. Sandra Oh was nominated for two Golden Globes, one for her performance as Dr. Cristina Yang and another for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. She won the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2011 Golden Globes. The show received positive reviews from critics towards the end of its first season, particularly regarding Pompeo's character Meredith Grey's relationship with Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). The "San Francisco Chronicle" stated that ""Grey's Anatomy" reintroduces to us one of our favorite fresh-faced heroes: hospital administrator, cancer patient and water-carrier extraordinaire Meredith Grey. cfa1e77820
